4 Weeks of Steady Progress: Marathon Jam Retrospective

My goal for Marathon Jam was to Finish TORSO TENNIS.

Technically I completed this! The game is done. It is Approved on Steam and tested (I was finally able to beat it). But what I’ve learned over the last four weeks is that no micro-roguelike is ever complete. They live in a state of constant flux, with many, many, many ideas for new content that always COULD be added to the game.

I’m happy to say I DID stick to my original 4 week plan that I laid out in my original devlog post.

  • 1: Task Blasting - DONE
  • 2: Perma-boost Tattoos - DONE
  • 3: Limb Audit - DONE
  • 4: Audio Pass - DONE (brief recap below)

This week I added 3 new music tracks and a ton of sound effects that were missing before. The game is feeling a lot more ALIVE and I’m love it.

During the jam, I think WEEK 2 was the most impactful on the game. Adding new permaboosts that really shook up the gameplay made each run feel like a bombastic new adventure. Having this accountability was super powerful for me, so thanks to all the Marathon Jam participants for creating an environment that encourages this kind of LOCKING IN. I probably haven’t had such a productive run on new stuff in the game since the run up to Steam Next Fest.

So, what’s next for the game? In addition to doing Audio this last week, I’ve been getting ready to make a new trailer and release a big content update for the demo in April. I have a release date in mind, but I am waiting for confirmation on whether or not I get into a key showcase event.

Thanks so much for reading! If you’d like to support me, please wishlist TORSO TENNIS on Steam
